Greye Tate

Born: December 21
Birthplace/Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
Parents: Greye Sr (Pilot) Nancy (Tennis Player)

When Greye was 4 he was with his dad watching some friends get big air and throw whips. Becoming very excited he expressed he wanted a dirt bike. His parents said he must first become good at riding a bicycle without training wheels and thought nothing more about it. Early the next morning his dad was going out of town when he found Greye in the garage banging his training wheels with a monkey wrench attempting to remove them. To decipher the situation Greye’s dad quickly removed them and left for work. Later Greye’s mom took him to a park where he immediately began riding as well as older kids. Keeping their word, his parents borrowed a PW50 and he pushed that bike to its limits jumping the first weekend, so his parents decided a new KTMJR50 with better suspension would be better. The rest is history. Growing up Greye played all the normal sports, was always the most fit, quickest, most athletic and gave 100%. His mom loved him playing basketball which he excelled at, one game he scored 28 of the 32 point scored. Riding was a hobby and due to his dads work schedule was only done every other weekend weather permitting and when no other events were taking place. Starting his 9th grade year, Greye said he wanted to focus solely on motocross. He wanted to be home schooled in order to train and travel to races. Greye had straight A’s, was a School Ambassador, a Peer Leader and very popular at school. After long consideration his parents allowed it with stipulations; he must enroll in an accredited program, he must do all the work, and he must maintain his grades or he couldn’t ride until the next report card. Upon graduation, Greye’s hard work earned him a scholastic scholarship. He is a business person at heart and believes a good education gets you a good job, however self education makes you successful. Greye’s first National race was in Ponca City OK. At the starting line his dad was shocked at the amount of support the other riders had; factory bikes, factory mechanics, new and mod everything. Right before the gate dropped his dad patted him on the back and said have fun, as he thought to himself, “ We’re at a gun fight with a knife and haven’t even trained”. Without a track to regularly ride growing up, the only thing he could regularly practice was starts. So, with perfect technique and determination on subpar equipment, Greye got the hole shot and led 39 of the countries best factory riders money could buy for one lap until he crashed. He’s been hooked ever since. To this point in Greye’s National racing career he has won a #1 title at the Kawasaki Race of Champions in New York, a #1 title at the Summer Classic in Alabama, a Georgia State Championship, earned three hole shots at Lorretta Lynn’s in Tennessee (the most prestigious MX race in the world), Numerous hole shots at the Mini Olympics in Gainesville, FL including a top 3 and three top tens, a hole shot and a top 10 at Daytona International Speedway and was a top 5 qualifier three separate years for the National Arenacross Championship held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
